Samsung Galaxy Tab S as a Family Tablet: Key Features
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S tablets are expensive compared to Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Kids. These tablet are obviously not meant to be just a tablet for kids but these can be an excellent tablet for the whole family.
Below are the new features of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S which most adult tablets lack.
Fingerprint Scanner for Security
The fingerprint scanner captures and stores your fingerprints, so only you can unlock your tablet and prevent unwanted access. Your fingerprint can also be used for Paypal authentication thereby preventing unwanted purchases.
Multi-User and Kids Mode
You can create up to eight different users in Multi-User Mode who can log-in using the fingerprint scanner to automatically unlock their specific profile. You can set the tablet at Kids Mode which has a kid-friendly interface where parents can select the apps and set time limits.
Final Thoughts
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S, especially the 8.4-inch, is obviously not just a learning toy but a powerful adult tablet which can be a great family tablet just like the iPad Mini and the Kindle Fire HDX. However, both the iPad and Kindle Fire do not have fingerprint scanner for added security. The iPad lacks the ability to set different user profiles and its restriction is not as robust as that of Kindle FreeTime. With these new features, the Galaxy Tab S, can be a great tablet for 12-year and above kids and as a family tablet. But make sure to have a protective rubber bumper on your Galaxy Tab S before handing it over to a younger kid.
