As a parent, I’m choosy about the shows my daughter watch on television or the internet. I prefer shows which do not only entertain but also educates. As an advocate for #startSTEMyoung, I always look for science-related shows for kids for my daughter.

Brainchild Edu-tainment for Kids
I recently discovered Brainchild , a science-inspired educational series on Netflix. The series’ first season was released on November 2, 2018 and features 13 episodes. Brainchild was executive produced by rapper Pharrell Williams so you will see him also in an episode. The series was co-produced by Atomic Entertainment, producer of Brain Games.
Brainchild teaches kids about concepts such as gravity, outer space, emotions, and memory through entertaining visual aids and experiments. I immediately liked the series but will my daughter like it as well?
In order to test whether she will like Brainchild, I first let my daughter watch episodes on Germs and Oceans, topics which are quite familiar to her. She watched the episodes several times and asked for more episodes which I gladly obliged.
If you haven’t watch Brainchild yet, below is the trailer.
Why Parents and Kids Will love Brainchild
Brainchild answers questions most parents can’t
How big is the universe? Do fish pee? These are some of the questions that Brainchild answers. These are questions that most parents are not prepared to answer. Yes, we can Google the answers but that we might not be able to breakdown the concepts into a language easily understood by kids.
Brainchild makes learning fun
Kids often find Math and Science boring because that’s how adults make them feel about it. Brainchild makes learning science fun and engaging. Parents will also learn while watching the series so it will be so much fun to watch Brainchild with your kids.
Brainchild breaks stereotypes
Brainchild is hosted by Indian-American Sahana Srinivasan. The show also features another female, Alie Ward, as “Science Friend” who helps Sahana explains various concepts. When girls see women especially women of color, talk about science, it makes them feel that they can too. This helps inspire girls to take STEM careers in the future.
